The Larky nudge® platform can deliver push notifications to your mobile banking app through two options; time-based nudges and geolocation-based nudges. As their name implies, time-based nudges are triggered to be delivered at a specific time to all account holders with the mobile banking app installed, and with appropriate notification permissions enabled.
For geolocation-based nudges to be delivered as intended, the nudge® platform requires access to location information even when the mobile banking app is not active. See this article for more details.
Both Apple and Google have put an increased focus on maintaining and increasing privacy, giving users more control over how and when their personal details, including location information, are shared with apps. A key driver behind this is to ensure that apps don't sell user data to other apps, something Larky never does. Larky is a leader in privacy and data protection and applauds the iOS and Android evolution on this.
Educating account holders on how and especially why they should share their location information is key to being able to successfully engage them with geolocation-based messaging. This article explains details and provides sample content for such a messaging effort.

Demonstrate Value
As with any marketing offer or request, demonstrating the value your account holders will receive by giving you access to their location information is an important element in them granting that permission. Your messaging needs to highlight that value.
Do you participate and support local community events? Maybe you're planning on using the nudge® platform to warn about local suspected fraud activity.
Include details like this in your messaging.
Highlight Privacy
As mentioned above, a key element to all of this is ensuring privacy when it comes to location data. Making it clear to your account holders that you respect and will protect that privacy makes it more likely they will share their location data. They already trust you with their financial details, and highlighting this fact can help build that required trust.
Sample Messaging Plan
The nudge® platform provides you with a new way of reaching your account holders. Adding it to your other tools increases the options for getting your messaging out to those you want to see them. Similarly, while there are dialogs and screens in your mobile banking app that help highlight all of this, it's important to supplement that with other messaging to deliver these details. We suggest you include some details around this in messaging about your mobile banking app, whether that's in the form of a direct email, or perhaps as part of their monthly statement.

We’re pleased to announce a new update to our mobile banking app, coming soon to both the Apple App Store and Google Play store! An exciting new feature in this new version is the ability for the app to notify you with announcements of interest whether you are at home, or on the go. For example, we can alert you to important updates on lobby hours (or closings) as you approach a branch. Or, we can remind you of special community events, like financial wellness classes, food drives, and financial literacy resources.
If you would like to take advantage of this new capability, then just enable location sharing when the new app prompts you for that. And, just like you already trust us with your most important and private personal and financial information, you can trust that we won’t ever share your location information with a third party, or use it for anything other than providing you with timely information, when and where you need it!
We’re excited to have this new way to connect with you, even if we can’t always meet face-to-face.
In-App Messaging

In-App messaging is something that needs to be configured before your app is submitted to either the Google Play or Apple App Store, and should be coordinated with your mobile banking app provider. Larky is happy to help in this process. The messaging primarily appears in a prominent disclosure dialog that explains why location access is being requested, just before that request is made.
Here's an example of such a dialog with some proposed text that should be customized based on your specific needs.

Enhancing iOS permission dialogs
In the case of Apple iOS apps, we can also supplement the standard OS dialogs that are shown on the device when permissions are being requested or confirmed. Here are some examples of those:
Android persistent notifications
While it is not possible to add custom language to similar dialogs in Android's OS, there is a related element on that platform that should be considered as part of this overall strategy.
