Google has certain requirements when submitting Android apps that access location information to the Google Play store. We have a guide outlining the overall process, most of which is performed by the mobile banking technology partner. But one element includes certain requirements for the financial institution's privacy policy, covering how location information is handled.
Here is some sample content that could be a starting point, if no such language exists in the privacy policy now:
Location Information: If you use our mobile banking application on your mobile device, we may collect and process information about your actual location. We use this opt-in data to provide relevant messaging, even when the app is not open on your screen, to tailor our products and services for you, and to occasionally offer you promotions of interest. You can enable or disable access to this information at any time, through your device settings.
Additional Google requirements are that the policy is,
- Available on an active URL (no PDFs). Effectively this means it needs to be a "normal page" on the financial institution's main website.
- Clearly labeled as your app’s privacy policy in the title or URL and within the body of the page. This promotes transparency with users and shows how you handle sensitive user and device data.
- Linked on your app's store listing page and within your app.
We are happy to help review existing policies and work with the financial institution's Compliance department in ensuring all requirements are met. Please submit a support request at the link above if you would like our assistance in this process!
